Survivor 33 Simulator Demo Released

Author Brant    Category All, Updates     Tags

The Survivor: Millennials vs. Gen X season template is complete. This uses the new Survivor algorithm, which is still missing some computational and display components and is borrowing some of these functions from existing simulators until the new code is fully ready. Most notably tribal council is in an overly simplistic form, although logical decision making is still occurring. Because this season was previously announced to be released 24 hours after the finale, it is being published in an unfinished ‘demo’ state.

Please report any issues that you see with this current version. Bugs are expected, and I’ll be closely monitoring reports to make adjustments while the new algorithm is being finished.

This season is expected to be released in a more final form in a few days along with a full release of The Duel simulator.

Bugs Fixed as of 11:45 PM EST on 12/16/16:
– Correct player is now eliminated at pre-merge tribal councils.
– Legacy Advantage is now used by the correct player.
– Three tribe immunity challenges now show both tribal winners.
– Weak players are now targeted more frequently pre-merge, with threats targeted more frequently post-merge.
– Added initial Placements page.
– Correct reward sharing now occurs in final six immunity challenge.
– Random mode no longer divides by gender.

Coming Very Soon:
– Better tribal councils (functions and displays) and idol playing
– Improved event & targeting scenarios
– Statistics, and summary pages

The simulation went wrong before the split of 3 tribe where a person with no vote will go home

    Idol rules for MvGX:

    STANDARD IDOLS AND LEGACY ADVANTAGE

    * Hide one idol for each tribe, including Ikabula. See below for the merge idol.
    * Rehide idols pre-merge (up to and including after final 14 TC) if played or flushed.
    * Rehide idols post-merge (final 13 TC through final 6 TC) if no idols other than the Legacy Advantage are in play.
    * Legacy Advantage acts as a nontransferable idol playable only at the F6. The holder will always play it on themselves if not immune.

    MERGE IDOL

    * If exactly one original tribe idol is hidden at the point the tribes merge, it is out of play. Do not hide a merge idol.
    * If two original tribe idols are hidden at the point the tribes merge, they are out of play. Hide one merge idol.
    * If all three original tribe idols are hidden at the point the tribes merge, hide two idols at the merge, but refer to them as the Takali and Vanua [or equivalent] idols in order to distinguish them. Despite the tribe names, both idols can be found by any member of the merged tribe.

SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT THE LEGACY ADVANTAGE

Because the Legacy Advantage is assumed to be nontransferable once opened, there are two special stipulations:

    * If the Legacy Advantage holder wins F6 immunity, they should give the Immunity Necklace to the player they have the closest relationship with. This transfer takes place during the Tribal Council phase, before votes are cast.
    * If the Legacy Advantage holder also has a normal HII, they should play the Legacy Advantage first before determining who to play the idol for.

These stipulations should also be backported to Cagayan final 5, because the Cagayan special idol was also nontransferable.

Thanks. Your notes are once again helpful, and this new system will make it easier to put in accurate idol and item rules for each season.

    First bugs that I notice:

    – At the three first tribal council’s on premerge, the player with most votes isn’t going home. A random player goes in his place.
    – At the swap, we got three tribes, but the game is showing only one tribe that won the immunity challenge.
    – Legacy Advantage isn’t working. The player uses, but it doesn’t have any effect.

    • Profile photo of Finn Jones
Finn Jones [Member] December 16, 2016 at 6:21 am

And at the final five, that should be the last time to use the idol, the players that got him aren’t using.
In fact, I don’t see any hidden immunity idol being used at the three seasons that I simulate, so maybe isn’t working too.

Brant [Admin] December 16, 2016 at 1:23 pm

You’re correct. Idol ‘playing’ is very basic, if it’s enabled at all. This is something that will be adjusted throughout the day in testing and uploaded with changes regularly.

This is mainly because the current vote algorithm is more representative of Total Drama Island than Survivor. The full Survivor voting algorithm is being completed, and then idol playing and display will drastically improve.

The first two bugs are fixed. Do you mean the Legacy Advantage holder is using it and still receiving votes for the third?

People that had fewer votes got voted out. You probably should fix that for starters.

Thanks, fixed in the initial episodes. If you still see it, please let us know.

  • Alan Walshe [Guest] December 16, 2016 at 8:01 am

Have only had a quick look at the demo but the two things that stood out for me is that at tribal instead of the votes been read out one by one it immediately tells you whos going home which isnt as fun and while just simulating to the end i noticed Taylor was voting Will out at final 4 because he thought he was weak but in reality its the strongest players that are the biggest targets at that stage

    • Profile photo of Brant
Brant [Admin] December 16, 2016 at 1:27 pm

The “Vote Display” will be fixed. It’s a function that hasn’t been designed yet, but it’s coming. The original function on BrantSteele.net has a plurality bug, and rather than copying that one with the bug, I’d rather redesign it to eliminate that issue.

The weakest player being targeted is most definitely a bug, and I’ll look into that and fix it next.

Thanks. I’m disappointed by the lack of completeness of this release, but it’s important to switch to the new .com Survivor system and I didn’t want to wait until the Survivor 34 finale. The finale was sooner than expected, so a lot was temporarily borrowed from Total Drama Island and other simulators since the new algorithm also being used with the Merge Template and other test Survivor templates is still incomplete.

The remaining functions are being finished now, and this will soon exceed the logic and level of detail that the .net Survivor simulators are capable of having. It will also be more server and hard drive friendly, which helps the long term stability of the site.

There was a glitch in the simulator when it came to the tribal to use the legacy advantage the original holder that had it before didn’t have it and it was given to someone random (Ex: Jessica had the legacy advantage and at tribal it said Michelle had it

The legacy advantage should be fixed. It had the incorrect ID (the reward stealer) and another issue happening at the same time.

  • Alex [Guest] December 16, 2016 at 3:13 pm

What exactly is the Survivor Merge Template? And have you ever thought of doing a Interactive Template similar to the big brother future template?

    • Profile photo of Brant
Brant [Admin] December 16, 2016 at 3:34 pm

An interactive template for Survivor is under consideration. It’s clear that it, along with a fully customizable Survivor template, is what most Survivor simulator users want the most. There will be some surveys and decision making probably later in the month to determine if that’s going to be the focus of January or not. A few pieces need to fall in place for that to happen.

The Merge Template is a season template for Survivor announced a year ago that is a customizable Survivor template for just one single tribe, and users would be able to choose a few options to configure the season how they want it to be. The Merge Template was originally intended to be released to users, but lately it’s just served as a test season to help get the new Survivor algorithm configured. It’s possible that plans for it could be discarded and a more powerful multi-tribe template could be added for Survivor instead.

The old .net Survivor simulator reached its limit as far as features and expansion, and this new algorithm will be a lot more flexible to support new features in the future. This Survivor 33 simulator is a work in progress, but it has a combination of the new algorithm and Total Drama Island’s code.

None of the statistics are available yet! When I click on the statistics it says “Page Coming Soon” when will the statistics come?

    • Profile photo of Brant
Brant [Admin] December 16, 2016 at 6:14 pm

The placements page was almost added last night, but some issues prevented that from being finished before I had to sleep. I would think that page will at least be up with the names and order tonight (not the vote numbers yet). The other statistics will take a little longer.

  • Bolder22 [Guest] December 16, 2016 at 4:50 pm

Not sure if this is a bug but every time you select a random cast it is dividing castaways down Gender lines. Men are always on Vanua and Ladies on Takali when this season did not have a gender twist.

OH. That’s a bug. It’s because I think I copied those settings from The Duel. It’ll be fixed soon.

Are alliances less likely to vote together in this simulator? There’s been little to no occurrences where an alliance voted TOGETHER consistently, if anything they just didn’t vote for eachother.

    • Profile photo of Brant
Brant [Admin] December 16, 2016 at 6:13 pm

      Right now:

BrantSteele.net Survivor: Alliances decide votes in a somewhat predictable fashion.
Total Drama Island: Individuals mostly decide vote factoring in alliances and other reasons.

BrantSteele.com Survivor is using the Total Drama Island vote reasons now, but the new process will be a combination of how BrantSteele.net and Total Drama Island operate with some new additions like majority alliances splitting votes due to idols.

The players don’t seem to be using any of the special items.
The alliances don’t seem to vote against anyone together.

Not sure if this is a consistent problem. But, The winner of the Steak Reward on the Finale sometimes shares the reward with themselves

  • Johnny [Guest] December 16, 2016 at 8:12 pm

I’d assume it has to do with it being on .com and not .net, but you can’t customize a season as easily on a .net

Also its avoiding going to rocks. (Example. 10 person tribe of 2. 5 member alliances, everyone in the alliance should go to rocks when they are unbreakable. However the results are 6 votes to 4 votes.)

  • David [Guest] December 16, 2016 at 10:24 pm

Merge Hidden Idol at Start of Merge Status & through the rest of the simulator says it is Currently Not Hidden & no one has it!!!

    • David [Guest] December 16, 2016 at 10:39 pm

Merge Hidden Idol Activated Finale Part 2. And it activated itself after all Hidden Idols were gone (or after all players who had Idols, did not used them at all & were all voted out of the game, in the simulation I am Currently Playing) Big BUG/Glitch

    • Profile photo of Brant
Brant [Admin] December 16, 2016 at 11:25 pm

The merge idol is set to not appear until all other idols are gone, but that’s probably not the correct way it should be. @bwburke94 has provided great some idol information I need to read through.

    * CeCe and Taylor have their full names listed instead of the shortened form they used during the game.
    * On post-switch alliance pages, “Not On Team” should be “Not On Tribe” for consistency.

  • Profile photo of Brendan
Brendan [Member] December 17, 2016 at 11:36 am

Found a bug at final tribal – a 4-4-2 FTC vote should result in a revote, not an immediate tiebreaker.

Chill Out [Member] December 17, 2016 at 2:19 pm

I don’t think it shows a re-vote in the other seasons either? Tie votes for the winner are pretty rare but I’m pretty sure it doesn’t show who voted who in the re-vote, so only the wording of it has changed.

This simulator is great, thank you guys so much!

There are some kinks that needs to be worked out (mainly playing idols, which is already on the list of stuff that is being worked on) but overall it functions very well and I love the new format! When I saw “demo” I expected the sim to be way less complete than it feels currently, bravo!

  • David [Guest] December 17, 2016 at 2:29 pm

When will no logic style of simulating be available?

    • Profile photo of Brant
Brant [Admin] December 17, 2016 at 4:15 pm

Probably later tonight. All of the functions that are built include it. I just want to run through a season and make sure it works before activating it.

The same applies to the ‘change settings each week’.

  • Dylan [Guest] December 17, 2016 at 4:56 pm

It seems as though almost everyone pre-merge are being targeted and voted out just solely based on physical strength, even though the weaker players being voted out have their strategic abilities set to Great or Mastermind and are in solid alliances. Is more in-depth targeting logic still in development?

    • Profile photo of Brant
Brant [Admin] December 17, 2016 at 5:16 pm

      Yes, for certain.

Not sure if anyone noted this yet, it’s nothing huge but when a tribe wins a challenges their name doesn’t come up in the big colourful font like on .net. Not sure if you are already working on it.

    Hi Brant!

I just did a simulator of MvGX and I noticed that idols weren’t played at all even though people had them, resulting in a few people going home with idols in their pockets and what not. Also, a person in my sim had the Reward Stealer and never used it. Is this still normal, because the Legacy advantage was played correctly. Thanks!
